Rabbit Care Tips
Hello! Congrats on your new rabbit! If this is your first rabbit, you’re in for an exciting adventure. Now that you have your new buddy home, here’s a couple things to do. Put them in their new living area let them sniff around and get familiar. Offer pellets and water, hay is also great as they transition to a new area. Rabbits have sensitive tummies so unlimited grass hay is always best, it helps the digestive systems to flow smoothly.
Basic Care & Housing
Cage or Hutch (we use 30x36 wire cages)
Unlimited water
Unlimited hay (we like timothy)
Quality Pellets
Anytime you change feed, you should introduce slowly. Whether it be pellets, vegetables, forage (dry or fresh) to avoid tummy issues. I feed my rabbits Cache Commodities “The Family Rabbit” blend. If you would like to feed a different brand, we recommend using pellets with at least 16% protein and under 2.5% fat. We feed our Californians 1oz of pellets per pound. That’s roughly 6-8oz per adult rabbit (just shy of 1 cup). All rabbits will be sent to new homes with a bag of transition food. See chart below for feeding instructions to make the transition easier.
